CHALLENGES

Cherry Hill Coolstores have customers throughout Tasmania and mainland Australia, with their peak season typically from March to December. JACS Engineering and Maintenance is responsible for all repairs and maintenance and to keep all equipment in good working order so there are no preventable delays during the busy peak season.

REFURBISHMENT OF PLANT EQUIPMENT

During December 2023 and February 2024 (off-peak season) JACS Engineering and Maintenance was commissioned to rebuild and repair all equipment for Cherry Hill Coolstores.

This equipment included:

  • three bulk unloaders used for potatoes and carrots;
  • the refurbishment of Cherry Hill’s potato cutting line equipment; and
  • the refurbishment of a twin head Monstafill box filler.

Our duties varied from the servicing of belts, chains, rollers and electric motors, right down to the replacement of bearings and rivets. We inspected the equipment for cracks, missing parts, and general operation to ensure everything was working at a high standard.

Upon completion, Cherry Hill Coolstores had optimal-functioning, shiny, near-new looking equipment. We provided a full, service history and documented all their equipment before and afterwards for comparison.

We implemented new protocols for future servicing of all plant equipment. Our client received an illustrated, step-by-step manual for future equipment servicing, including safety recommendations and approval processes for all staff to follow.

We have found that our diagrams and technical photography have additional benefits, as they provide staff with a visual standard that they can aim to achieve. Our manuals include a check list of the equipment and the tools required prior to commencing any repairs or maintenance works. These manuals can help bridge any training gaps for staff, allowing them to work confidently and within the scope of their qualifications and agreed responsibilities.

When processes are documented, we are also implementing procedures for the future which help to keep our staff, their staff, plus other contractors on site safer and better trained; and everyone can perform their duties with confidence.

Our overall goal is for the equipment to have less breakdowns during peak season, which enables our client and their staff to have better productivity and be more efficient with their time. With this model of integrity in place, Cherry Hill Coolstores can provide better customer service for their clients.

The team at JACS Engineering are highly integrated into our business model. Denny, Justin and all the team work very hard for us, so that we can work more efficiently.
